I am PSTC - Matt Limbaugh
Matt Limbaugh was new to the commercial truck world when he joined Birmingham Freightliner & Western Star in 2020 as a truck salesperson, but he had extensive knowledge of dealerships. Matt’s family owns a car dealership in Birmingham, Alabama and as soon as Matt was out of college, he went straight to work in the family business. After 23 years there, and facing the reality of a growing pandemic, Matt started to look at his future and the future of the country. And he saw trucks.
“I took a month off after leaving the car dealership—right when COVID hit—and I started to think: What’s the world going to look like after this,” said Matt. “The future of trucking is going to be so important because trucks are what helped us get through this unprecedented time.”
As Matt worked his way up at the car dealership—washing cars, then eventually selling them—he realized that as much as he liked being around vehicles, he liked being around the people. His first day as a salesperson, he sold two cars. His talent for selling and building relationships led him all the way to General Manager after 15 years and Vice President a handful of years after that. When it came time to leave his career of over 20 years, Matt wasn’t looking for a quick rebound—he wanted another place where he could settle down and grow roots.
“When I came to Birmingham Freightliner and Western Star, I wanted a second home,” continued Matt. “I like that the company has lots of longevity in its employees and that it’s not a revolving-door dealership. The culture is all about career growth and long-term service, and I liked that when I was looking around.”
Since Matt joined the Birmingham team, he got his CDL license, received online product training and got the chance to meet a lot of owner-operators who serve as the customer base for the used truck sales department. It’s the people he met in his sales role that made the biggest impact.
“I love hearing from truck drivers about their travels across the country, and it’s always amazing how hard they work,” said Matt. “Life on the road is so fascinating, and I’m proud to be able to help these drivers find the best truck that helps them live that life to the fullest.”
After two years in the used truck sales role, Matt got the opportunity to take on a new challenge and a new position—operations manager of the parts and service location in Harpersville. He sees the new job as an opportunity to grow the business and get the word out about the relatively new dealership location. When calling on customers, Matt loves hearing, "I didn't know that there was a place so close for me to get work done."
“We currently have six technicians with eight service bays, so having enough space to grow is not a problem,” said Matt who started as operations manager in early 2023. “We want people to know that Harpersville is fully capable of handling all of your parts and service needs. As we continue to grow, I see this location being able to provide the ultimate customer experience. There’s lots of parking and even room for trailers. We have a fantastic parts inventory, well-trained technicians, and the most customer-oriented advisors to continuously keep the customer updated on their truck.”
When he’s not hard at work, Matt spends a lot of his time on the baseball diamond—four to five nights a week to be exact. He’s been a little league coach to his son for over five years. He has two other children, aged five and 14, and they all go to the same schools in Homewood Matt went to when he was growing up.
